Nelly Kinja, a resident of Joyland estate in Juja Kiambu County was arrested on Sunday evening for obstructing census enumerators from performing their duties.
According to sources, the woman who happens to be a landlady blocked census officials from entering her apartment. She allegedly hurled insults at the enumerators and refused to be counted saying that census had no meaning since the government had overburdened her with land rates.
The lady’s unending insults forced the enumerators to call in the police to salvage the situation that was attracting curious onlookers.
When the police arrived at the place, the lady opted to deceive the officers that she had already been enumerated on Saturday, the exact date when the census exercise officially kicked off.
The lady was arrested and taken to Juja Police Station as she awaits arraignment at the Thika Law Courts on Monday.
Nelly Kinja’s ‘loose tongue’ might land her a year in jail or have to cough up 500,000 shillings to secure her freedom.
