Early today, President Uhuru Kenyatta revealed the identity of 2 Kenyans cured of COVID-19, Brenda and Brian in a teleconference call in Nairobi.
Uhuru thanked and heaped praise on Brenda, the first coronavirus patient saying she was brave in coming out.
“You are special because upon your arrival and you feeling that you, were not well, without being pushed you took it upon yourself realising that you had the risk to harm others and take yourself to KNH,” Uhuru said.
“This is a moment of pride. We are proud of you Brenda…you were able to inform us all the people you were in contact with,” he said.
“We are celebrating your bravery. You were able to limit your contacts and identify them and trace them…and there is no single death..you are a very wonderful and brave girl.”
Uhuru described the two as true heroes and a source of hope for Kenyans that the disease can be healed.
“Let us follow Brenda’s example and Brian we can contain this disease..as the two young people before us we can not only contain the disease but treat it,” he said.
“For all of us who are out there, who have these symptoms..let us behave like these people and report symptoms.. let’s stay away..let us bring ourselves forward and be treated because it is treatable, there is no stigma,” he added.
Well, a good number of Kenyans on social media have expressed their desire and urged the president to consider feting the two with The Head of State Commendation award for their act of bravery.
The HSC award, according to the National Honours Act, is decorated on a person who exhibits exemplary qualities, or achievements of heroism, patriotism or leadership, one who has made an exemplary contribution to the country in the economic, scientific, academic, sports, journalism, business, security or other fields.
We will have to wait and see what will unfold. Do you think the two deserve the award?
