Troubled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko spent most of Thursday night and Friday morning on social media where he opened up on his recent battle with insomnia.
The seasoned City politician kept his followers entertained with funny videos and some cryptic messages targeted at officials within the national government whom he has had a frosty relationship with over the past two months following a controversial agreement to hand over some of his powers.
At around 10 pm, the former Makadara Member of Parliament with a multimillion corruption case in court wrote a quote insinuating that some people had taken his “kindness” for weakness after which he proclaimed himself a “beast”.
“Don’t mistake my kindness for weakness. The beast in me is sleeping, not dead,” he posted the quote accompanied by the photo of a lion.
Moments to 3 a.m, he was back again on Facebook where he confessed his lack of sleep in the last few days.
He went on to add that he has been listening to gospel music for solace.
It appears to have been a long night for Sonko because at 4 a.m, he was back to social media yet again. This time with a funny TikTok video on how cheating husbands are surviving the tough quarantine times.
Ever since he handed over some key functions to the National Government, Sonko has appeared to hint at being frustrated by high ranking state officials.
On Tuesday this week, he sent another cryptic message to those in government saying God is on his side.
“They have the army, the police & Gov’t Agencies to intimidate me but I have God & His people as my only Shield & Saviour. May your will be done. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, & the love of God, & the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all now & forevermore,” he wrote.
On why he signed the agreement to transfer certain functions to the State, Sonko recently denied claims that he was forced into the deal that clipped his powers.
The governor claimed he had been duped into signing the deed of transfer of functions.
The new team took over running of the Health, Transport, Public Works, and Planning and Development departments to the chagrin of Sonko.
