A section of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have launched an online attack aimed at Citizen TV over claims of bias coverage of the DP and his Hustler Nation Movement.
Citing a story aired on Sunday on Citizen TV dubbed ‘Nyeri Mobs Stone Ruto’ the leaders urged their supporters to shun the media house and consume content from other channels.
Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi; a known defender of DP Ruto urged Hustler Nation members to embrace alternative sources of news including social media.
“I advise the Hustler Nation to desist from watching @citizentvkenya They are taking us back to the dark days of @KANUParty_ke and KADU where biased news was a norm. As Hustlers we can update ourselves using alternative sources like social media. Hata mlika mwizi iko na kazi yake!” he tweeted.
Sudi’s point was echoed by hi Kimilili counterpart Didmus Barasa who urged Hustler Nation fans to unfollow Citizen TV social media platforms.
“I see @citizentvkenya has 4M likes. I’m urging all the hustlers to click the dislike button. Acha tutembeze viatu maze,” he tweeted.
On his part, Soy MP Caleb Kositany questioned the authenticity of the story and demanded for more evidence to back the claims.
“Citizen TV please show us the clip of the stoning incident please,” he posted.
The Citizen TV story highlighted chaos that were witnessed in Nyeri as the DP visited, but did not showcase any incident of the mob stoning Ruto’s convoy.
On Sunday, Chaos erupted during DP Ruto’s visit to Kieni in Nyeri County where he attended a church service.
Rival groups clashed before the second in command’s arrival at Mbiriri Full Gospel church in Kieni.
Before his arrival at the church, DP Ruto encountered youths who tried to barricade the road and stop him from proceeding to the church.
In videos, the youths are seen carry banners and are heard chanting “mwizi” as the entourage passed by.
Reports indicate that the DP was to have a meeting with three different churches before two of those churches cancelled their invitations to DP Ruto.
