Residents of Hassan’s constituency now join three others in waiting for the announcement by the National Election Commission (NEC) on when they will have a by-election to elect other MCAs.
Two of the MCAs who were members of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) from Geita region died while receiving treatment at the Bugando referral hospital in Mwanza.
The CCM assistant secretary in Geita David Azaria identified the late MCAs as Masalu Luponya who was elected to represent Bugalama constituency, and Magomamoto Zanzibar the elected MCA for Buziku, Chato.
According to Azaria, Luponga was taken ill during the campaign period and was admitted at the hospital when elections were held. On the other hand, Magomamoto fell ill soon after the election and later died while receiving treatment at the same health facility
In the coastal region, the elected MCA for Kikongo constituency died alongside her two grandchildren after their house was razed down by fire earlier in the week.
Other than those four, there are four other constituencies which do not have MCAs due to various reasons among them being the death of three candidates who passed away before the elections.
In the fourth constituency, elections were not held due to lack of voting materials.
