Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has paid Tsh 38 Million ( Ksh 1.7 Million ) to secure the release of Iringa City MP Peter Msigwa.
Tanzania’s Statehouse Director of Communications Gerson Msigwa said that Peter’s family begged Magufuli for help in which he contributed the said amount. It is well known that Msigwa’s nephew has married President Magufuli’s daughter.
Speaking to a local Tanzanian blog, Msigwa revealed that their family only contributed Tsh 2 Million and that’s why they asked the president for help after failing to raise the fine.
The Iringa City MP was sentenced on March 10, 2020, by Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar Es Salaam to pay a fine of Tsh 40 million or five months’ imprisonment, in his aggravating case together with other 7 CHADEMA members.
This follows President’s Uhuru’s move where he paid Ksh 1 Million fine to secure the release of a man sentenced to two years in prison for carrying a python without a permit.
