Police in Nandi County have this evening launched a manhunt for Olympic and world 3,000 metres steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto after for allegedly eloping with a form two student.
According to a report filed at Mosoriot Police Post by the teenager’s parents, Conseslus is reported to have ‘ran away’ with the underage girl three days ago.
Kalenjin radio station Emoo FM first broke the news of the manhunt
The two distraught parents revealed that their daughter, who went missing from home, had made herself comfortable at the athlete’s home in Chesumei.
After the three days, the girl is said to have returned back home, where her parents tried interrogating her in an attempt to figure out where she had been.
She reportedly completely refused to disclose her past whereabouts which prompted her parents to search through her mobile phone call logs after which they noticed she had been in constant communication with the Olympics champion.
Cornered and out of options, it was then that the girl finally admitted that she had been staying at the athlete’s home for the three days she disappeared.
The girl’s parents immediately filed a report with legal authorities claiming their daughter had been defiled.
Confirming the filing of the police report at Mosoriot, Chesumei OCPD Bosita Omukolongolo said he couldn’t immediately establish the age of the girl.
“A report was filed at Mosoriot Police Station by the girl’s parents, who are complaining that Kipruto defiled their daughter. We cannot immediately confirm whether the girl is a minor or an adult. However, we are looking for the athlete whose whereabouts remain unknown,” Omukolongolo told a local online publication.

He also communicated that they will formally record his statement upon arresting Kipruto.
“Upon arresting the suspect, we shall record his statement and thereafter conclude investigations into the defilement allegations,” noted the OCPD, further confirming that the girl has already been taken to a local hospital for medical examinations to ascertain the truth.
For the better part of Friday, officers camped at the athlete’s home in Mosoriot but were unsuccessful in arresting Kipruto who is believed to have gone into hiding.
