The family of Winnie Odhiambo Gakara have dismissed reports that their daughter was planning to leave her family and relocate abroad.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, September 22, Winnie’s sister, Roseline Odhiambo stated that the husband and wife were in communication discussing how they would bring their kids to Nairobi.
She revealed that the couple were chatting in the morning of the fateful day and Dr Gakara had told his wife that he will pick her up in Juja.
Through the family spokesperson, Winnie noted that their last conversation was cordial as she and her husband had agreed to bring their kids to an amusement park in Nairobi over the weekend.
“They had planned a trip on Sunday. His last message to my sister was: ‘Don’t come over. The children and I will pick you in Juja on our way to Mary’s place’.” Roseline stated.
The spokesperson noted that contrary o reports that the wife had blamed her husband for the kid’s death, Winnie was actually hopeful that Dr Gakara would wake up and tell her what went wrong.
“It is all over the media that Winnie wanted to go abroad, [and leave her young family behind]. That is not true. Winnie doesn’t even have a passport,” the sister told the press.
“She registered as a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) just the other day with the help of her husband. She was to attend weekend classes,” she added.
However, when she was brought to the hospital to see her husband she was informed that he had passed on and she fainted.
The family spokesperson told journalists that Winnie is currently hospitalized in the high dependency units (HDU).
Additionally, the family refuted claims that the doctor and his wife had marital problems.
The two families stated that they never heard of any wrangles between the couple.
