A mysterious fire broke out on Wednesday 25th September at around 2 am at the Busia County finance offices, destroying crucial files and documents.
Property of unknown value was destroyed in the early morning inferno that has left many questions unanswered. Ironically, the county’s fire station is just a stone throw away from the offices yet the firefighters took time before responding to the situation.
The county’s Communications Director Winnstone Mbada confirmed the incident and said that they were yet to establish the cause of the fire that left the offices in ashes.
“The situation has been controlled and we are working closely with relevant authorities to establish the immediate cause of the fire,” said Mbada.
The County’s Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi also issued a statement and assured residents that the destroyed files and documents had backups.
“Only the finance office was affected by the fire. We are still waiting for officials from the department to inform us on the severity of the fire and documents destroyed. We have a backup system in place for all the documents in the department,” he said.
