Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen has claimed the state, with the stewardship of President Uhuru Kenyatta, is bankrolling the Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper party in readiness for the 2022 General Election.
Murkomen said the government is involved in the affairs of the party, including giving financial support.
According to the senator, the government oversaw the renovation of Wiper offices which are yet to be opened.
“I can swear an affidavit. I know for sure that the contractor who renovated and furnished that place was procured and paid by state house,” he said.
Murkomen’s claims follow a tweet by Denis Itumbi, who asserted that the Wiper party had its new headquarters procured by the government.
“HNIB agents are reporting that Kalonzo Musyoka collected money from Harambee House prefects to pay for a new HQ. The SKM Command Centre will be unveiled tomorrow,” wrote Itumbi.
However, the claims were rubbished by Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, a Wiper member.
“Thanks for announcing and promoting our new HQ . The rest are mere stunts,” he said in response to Itumbi’s tweet.
