Police in Nairobi on Tuesday, August 17, are investigating a syndicate that has been carrying unlicensed firearms and using high-end cars to hide their illegal activities.
Officers on patrol flagged down a LandCruiser with two occupants at the junction of Arwings Khodek and ring road in the Kilimani area on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
The officers were suspicious of the vehicle and directed the driver to accompany them to the nearest Kilimani Police Station.
Cops proceeded to search the vehicle while at the station and that is when they recovered guns from the LandCruiser.
During interrogation, the man told police that the vehicle belonged to his friend who had been called him severally since the encounter with the police officers.
“The following items were recovered. One Ceska pistol without a magazine and with serial number erased. One revolver pistol s/no:ke KP 36338,” the OB stated.
“Frontal plate number after interrogation to ascertain the rightful owner of the motor vehicle, the driver found with the motor vehicle revealed that the car belongs to his friend namely Jeff who was persistently calling the suspect at the time,” it added.
The friend drove down to the station in a bid to rescue the two who were now being held by police only for cops to end up arresting him with firearms.
Police indicated in the occurrence book that they recovered equipment used by cops during their operations and two firearms.
“The owner of the motor vehicle drove in a few minutes later in a Mercedes Benz. The suspect was arrested and a quick search was conducted on the Mercedes Benz he drove in with,” the statement read.
“The following items were recovered. Two police handcuffs bearing serial numbers 2kp 001992, KP/1e/000624, One(1) Ceska magazine loaded with 7rounds of ammunition and one police pocket phone,” it continued.
