Kenyans on twitter(KOT) have taken the ongoing debate on social media on whether bhang should be legalized in Kenya.
The debate came after the death of Kibra MP Ken Okoth who had drafted a bill seeking legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes. President Uhuru Kenyatta also partly stroke the debate following his pending visit to Jamaica where the drug was legalized four years ago.
Those advocating for legalization of weed argue that extracts from the currently illegal drug have proven to reduce severe pain and nausea among cancer patients.
On the other hand, antagonist insist that making bhang legal will make the drug easily accessible to anyone including underage kids bringing up other complications such as psychological disorder.
“#LegalizeIt Do not legalize! our young generation will end up being zombies in streets of Nairobi, Mombasa etc,” read one of the tweets.
Nairobi County Governor, Mike Sonko asked the youthful leaders such as Babu Owino to work towards legalization of Cannabis sativa and in response the Embakasi East MP added that the drug could help the youth in “kunyanduana”.
