Kirinyaga governor Anne Mumbi has dropped her surname Waiguru days after traditional wedding with lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo.
The county boss said she can be referred to using any other names but not Waiguru.
Mumbi was speaking on Tuesday, August 6, at the Supreme Court after dismissal case filed by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua challenging her election.
She was prompted to respond to a journalist who wanted to know the governor’s new official name after wedlock.
“On my official name, we will soon communicate officially; for now, you can call me Anne Mumbi or Anne Mumbi Minji Minji or Anne Mumbi Kamotho Minji Minji, whichever… it is just a name!” she said.
The county chief recently got married to Kaimotho Waiganjo in a traditional wedding ceremony that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga among other local leaders.
The two are both divorcees from their first unions but good enough their former spouses endorsed their union and sent their blessings too.
Mumbi was married Tony Waiguru Njuguna before their marriage came crumbling in 2003.
So messy was the divorce that Njuguna reportedly moved out of their posh home in Runda and went to live with his brother in Ngumo Estate.
They never talked for a long time but somehow managed to sort out their issues when Mumbi became Devolution CS.
Traditionally, Mumbi is expected to drop his former husband’s name, Waiguru, and take up Waiganjo.
