With calls for a constitutional change in Kenya getting momentum, cracks are emerging within the political class and those in government.
ODM leader Raila Odinga has always hinted the new changes will see an entirely different government structure and expansion of the Executive that has a president, prime minister and deputy president.
In addition, the change proponents will also seek to trim the number of counties from the current 47 to 18 with 73 administrative units, Raila Odinga believes this will not be expensive.
Reacting to the comments on Twitter, Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen vehemently opposed the creation of new Executive positions and reduction of the devolved units.
The former Senate majority leader said should Uhuru and Raila introduce the three tier-government structure, he will lead the no campaign to shoot down the proposals.

“If the BBI referendum will mirror the divisive agenda we have witnessed in the Senate, if it shall be reversing the gains on devolution or increasing layers of governance or taking services far from the people, I WILL OPPOSE IT and I am ready to lead the NO Campaigns,” Murkomen wrote.
However, his current position appeared to be different from remarks he made on December 30, 2019, when he suggested Uhuru was free to become the country’s prime minister if Deputy President William Ruto becomes president in 2022.
