People from Western region of Kenya are mainly known for kuku and ugali but chapati is very rare.
A 38 year old woman in Kakamega burned her sons fingers just for eating two chapatis without permission. On Thursday, August 6, the woman burnt her sons hands by tying them and wrapping weave around the poured paraffin and lit a fire using a lit cigar.
Talking to the boy, this is what he explained,
“My mother dragged me into the house and beat me up before she ordered that I remove my clothes. She used some pieces of braids to tie my hands… She then poured paraffin on my hands and set them on fire.”
The victim’s grandparents, Jackton Shikuku and Agnes Jackton, say Nancy Mukongolo, a resident of Matete area in Lugari Constituency, doused her son after the boy, without seeking permission, ate two chapatis she had prepared Thursday afternoon.
According to some witnesses, this is not the first time Nancy is harming her child.
“This is the second time Nancy is attacking her child over food. It is now time lawful action be taken against her, lest she kill the boy over food someday,”
Police successfully arrested the Nancy Mukoongolo and she is being held at Matete Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
The boy was take by Geoffrey Bakuli, an official of Urafiki Initiative, a non-governmental body which advocates for observance of children’s rights, took the boy to a Lugari hospital, where he is receiving treatment for burn injuries.
