Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo still beats himself up over the death of his iconic friend John De’Mathew.
During the musician’s first memorial ceremony, Kabogo said he always thought of what would have happened had he not called John the night of his demise.
According to the renowned city politician, he and the famous Benga singer were to meet the day after his death to discuss some issues.
Kabogo called De’Mathew a night earlier to confirm their meeting and later learnt that the latter was involved in a fatal car crash.
When the two were speaking, John was at an event but he had to rush out.
The vocal leader said he sometimes cannot help but think his pal would still be alive and kicking of he had not left the event early.
With tears nearly dripping down his cheeks, Kabogo pleaded with the singer’s friends and family to hear him out and give him a chance to take the burden off his chest.
“I always wonder whether John would still be alive if I did not call him that night. Would he be living if he did not ask to leave the event?” He posed.
De’Mathew passed away after he was involved in a tragic road accident on August 18, 2019.
His car rammed into a lorry at Blue Post Hotel along Thika Road moments after leaving a fundraiser.
He was pronounced dead after being rushed to Thika Nursing Home.
