A while ago news of a man who sold cat meat to residents of Nakuru, and now there’s a man in Migori who has confessed that he enjoys eating dog, cat and tortoise meat.
Hailing from Kasigunga in Homa Bay but currently living in Ogongo village in Nyatike Subcounty, 35-year-old Thomas Odembo has been rearing lizards, chameleons and tortoise for consumption.
Odembo said he started eating lizards, chameleons, cats, tortoises and even dogs after working as a guard for a Chinese contractor.
Odembo, a father of seven, he has a strong appetite for the unconventional meat, something will drove him to start rearing lizards, chameleons and tortoises in his house in order to supplement his diet.
Speaking to The Star who visited his home, Odembo said;
“I have lost appetite for cow and goat meat, and I am ready to supply the village. I took chameleon last night for supper, this tortoise was brought by a neighbour who found it in his shamba. I have worked in several Chinese contractors’ and miners’ compounds in the area, I learnt this diet from them after realizing the animals we don’t eat have not affected them.”
According to Odembo, the animals’ meat just taste like normal meat. He says his favorite meat is that of reptiles.
“My favourite meal is often reptiles especially snakes, lizards, chameleons and tortoise.”
Although he loves unconventional meat, Odembo’s wife Pauline Akoth along with their children do not eat the meat.
