Nominated Senator Victor Prengei’s wife had just alighted from the car at Nakuru before the tragic accident Prengei and Catherine were travelling together home when she opted to alight at Nakuru and get another car so as to get home ahead of her husband.
However, as soon as she arrived home, she was informed of her husband’s accident which claimed his life.
The lawmaker passed away on Monday, August 16, after a fatal road accident along the Nakuru-Kabarak highway.
A report by the Daily Nation indicated on the fateful evening, the couple was from their Marioshoni farm in Eastern Mau and were on their way home in Mercy Njeri.
No sooner had she arrived home than she received a disturbing call informing her that her husband had been involved in a road accident.
“The two were together in Nakuru town, but his wife decided to go home earlier, leaving him behind. On arriving, someone called and informed her that he had been involved in an accident and that he had been taken to War Memorial Hospital,” a family source, Daniel Kobei said.
According to Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri, the accident occurred at around 9.45pm on Monday at Gioto, along the Nakuru, Kabarak Highway.
She said the senator was driving at a high speed when he lost control of the car, veered off the road and hit a wall.
“As a result of the impact, the driver, Mr Prengei, sustained injuries and was rushed to Nakuru War Memorial Hospital but succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment,” she said.
