Migori Governor Okoth Obado was believed to be working closely with DP William Ruto
Migori Governor Okoth Obado is a troubled man and will do anything to save himself from the jaws of justice. For the past few weeks, the governor has been having sleepless nights after his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) pushed for his ouster as the governor of Migori after he was charged in court for fraud of up to 73 million shillings.
Obado has been having a turbulent relationship with his party leader Raila Odinga due to his political relationship with Deputy President William Samoei Ruto. On Friday 9th October 2020, the duo shared a podium in Migori as they attended a burial ceremony of Mzee Peter Sirawa Ragoro, the father of Awendo MP Walter Owino.
The governor subtly launched a new tactic to win back the heart of AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa whom they have not been reading on the same page. In his speech, the embattled governor said that whatever has been said to Raila Odinga about him is untrue and the information was meant to create division between the two.
Obado added that his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is unwavering and threw his weight behind Odinga’s 2020’s presidential ambition. The ODM leader extended an olive branch to him saying that he is looking to end the differences between Governor Okoth Obado and his senator Ochillo Ayacko ahead of the political campaigns for the BBI.
Raila Odinga told them to focus on the BBI which will make the lives of Kenyans better and shun away from unnecessary political drama. Obado and his political nemesis Senator Ochillo Ayacko shared the podium for the first time after ODM sponsored an impeachment motion, which has stalled.
Obado and Ayacko, in several media interviews, have exchanged bitter words over the motion although they have not met in any public function.
