Health CS Mutahi Kagwe found himself in trouble following emails which were sent from Afya House to embattled Kenya Medical Supplies Agency’s CEO were leaked.
The leaked emails which were reported of by the Daily Nation on Sunday were in response to Susan Mochache’s initial calls for the former KEMSA CEO. In her message, PS Susan Mochache had asked Manjari to verify his claims that she had really instructed the supply agency on procurement of PPEs.
Jonah Manjari in his earlier claims while testifying before the Senate committee had claimed that while at work, he would receive texts and calls from Mutahi Kagwe and Susan Mochache instructing the agency on where to procure medical equipment.
While responding to the leaked emails, Kagwe dismissed claims of involvement in KEMSA’s scandal. He said that his only duty was to talk to his CEOs but not encouraging criminals in any way.
“I talk to them all the time but I have never asked or directed them to commit a crime,” Mr Kagwe told Daily nation.
In the multi Billion tender, more than 7.6 billion shillings are believed to have been stolen. Different politicians have since reacted to the expose’ and some have asked the government to halt payment to companies that supplied COVID-19 related items to KEMSA until when the investigation is over.
