Two traffic police officers attached to Sioport post in Funyula, Busia County found themselves on the receiving of a merciless beating from a General Service Unite (GSU) officer after he busted them soliciting bribes from a bodaboda rider and his customer.
According to residents the traffic cops were dressed in civilian clothes and had a roadblock along road to stop drivers and demand bribes, one of the victims being a bodaboda operator and his customer who was identified to be a fish trader.
Luckily, or unluckily for the two cops, a GSU officer who lives in Funyula was passing by and spotted the cops harassing the biker and his customer. He approached to enquire why the officers were soliciting bribes from law abiding citizens.
Without knowing who the guy was, one police officer slapped the GSU officer, which made things even worse. The GSU officer beat up the two cops like school boys and they had to flee towards the nearest police post.
One of the police officers sustained serious head injuries and had to be rushed to Sioport Sub-District Hospital for medical attention.
Residents of Funyula say the two traffic cops have been harassing bodaboda operators in the area and urged County Police Commander, John Nyoike, to take necessary action against the two corrupt officers.
