Yesterday we wrote about claims made by current Juja MP Frnacis Munyua Waititu, popularly known as Wakapee, indicating that there are dozens of Kenyan leaders suffering from different types of cancer.
The Legislator claimed that at least 9 MPs and 4 Senators were receiving cancer treatment outside the country, as well as claiming a total of 63 MPs and Senators were cancer patients.
Now the news have been given more weight after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko revealed that at least 60 serving MPs are battling the dreaded disease.
Just last week Kibra MP ken Okoth succumbed to colorectal cancer, a disease he bravely fought while receiving treatment abroad.
Other leaders who have lost the battle with cancer include the late Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim and Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze.
The good news, however, is that it’s possible to beat cancer as Juja MP can attest having himself battled with brain cancer for long until he was given a clean bill of health by doctors.n
Apart from our leaders, many Kenyans are travelling abroad, notably India and the UK for cancer treatments, and I bet it’s the right time we pronounce cancer a national health disaster.
