A section of Githurai residents today held a demonstration to protest the mysterious disappearance of a young man in the hands of police officers.
The residents lit tyres and barricaded roads in the morning protest that lasted hours.
They claim that one Denis Kimonda was picked by police officers on Tuesday last week and has since then never been seen.
According to Fredrick Ochieng, one of the angered residents who spoke, police claim that Kimonda was a Mungiki, an allegation that they have denied.
“We are here demonstrating because our friend and a young man was picked by police officers last week on Tuesday and he has since not returned. The police claim he is Mungiki, but we know who the Mungikis are,” said Ocheing.
Friends say that they have looked for Kimonda in several police stations, in Kasarani, Juja, Thika and even Murang’a with no success.
“Some of the youth being harassed here are football player, some are boxers. They arrest them then claim that they are Mungiki,” he claimed.
They have insisted that they will not relent with the protests until Kimonda is produced dead or alive.
