Former NTV journalist Lolani Kalu made a name for himself in the competitive media industry through doing human interest stories.
The talented reporter, who is among the best Swahili TV journalists in Kenya, had a unique way of reporting stories when he was working for the Nation Media Group.
Instead of focusing on mainstream news that we are all used to, he did great human interest stories through his popular segment ‘Maliwengu Na Lolani Kalu.”
Kenyans also fell in love with his humble character.
Lolani Kalu was just a simple man doing great stories.
Despite his massive talent and the huge audience that he used to command, he was sadly among the top journalists fired in 2018 through a massive lay-off exercise at Nation Media Group, that saw more than 100 employees lose their jobs.
Following his long silence after his sacking, Twitter bigwig Ahmed Mohammed, popularly known as ASMALI, curiously took to look for his whereabouts.
Days later, Asmali delivered bad news concerning the former journalist.
He revealed that Lolani Kalu has been going through hard times in his life ever since he lost his job at NTV.
“A few days ago I asked about the whereabouts of journalist Lolani Kalu. Today Chief Inspector Siyat of Kaloleni Station has found him. I have spoken to Lolani. He is going through hard times & seeking for your help. His number is 0720554930. Kindly send him what you can. Thanks,” he posted.
What went wrong…
After losing his job three years ago, Lolani decided to open a production company.
The company, however, did not perform as expected and he has been struggling with some clients failing to pay up for work done.
Lolani further said that he had lost all his savings amounting to Sh. 1.5 million to a rogue businessman whom he had contracted to build him a retirement home in Kang’undo.
Mr. Kalu currently lives in Kaloleni along the coastal region, where the father of three uses a friend’s laptop to try and edit his works.
