Former Kaloleni legislator Gunga Mwinga has died.
Mwinga died on Sunday morning at Mombasa Hospital where he had been admitted, the family has confirmed.
The former legislator had been admitted at the facility for a week.
Further reports indicated that he succumbed to suspected COVID-19 disease.
Gunga became the MP for Kaloleni in 2013, but he failed to retain his seat in 2017 after being floored by current MP Paul Katana.
In 2017, Gunga who was a lawyer by profession left KADU Asili to the Devolution Party of Kenya where he became the chairman and party leader.
The former MP left KADU Asili due to the party losing direction.
“I could not continue leading a party that wants to remain local. I have tried to cut a national figure for the party but it seems some of the officials have turned it into a family affair which does not augur well with the aspirations of members.
“I have personally championed for equitable distribution of national and county government resources specifically at the coast and I will continue doing so,” he said at the time.
