A 13-year-old girl from Mutonga village in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County has been found brutally murdered after she was reported missing about three weeks ago.
The body of the Form One student was found wrapped in a gunny bag and dumped in a river a short distance from her home.
Her family has been left devastated by the brutal murder of their daughter. They have since called on police officers to expedite investigations into the tragic incident.
Jane Njeri, the girl’s mother, is woman in pain as she struggles to come into terms that her daughter is now deceased.
The girl, Margaret Waithira was a student at Ngwamwa Secondary School.
Njeri’s pain grew by day as the family searched for the girl for three weeks but in vain.
“We searched for her at her friends, our neighbours, every where, but we did not find her,” Waithira’s uncle, Maina Kigio stated.
He revealed that on the evening of Monday, September 20, 2021, the villagers spotted a gunny bag in the river, about a kilometre from their home.
After responding to the scene, police retrieved the gunny bag only for the remains to be identified as Waithira.
“When the body was retrieved, it was brought to us and we ripped open the gunny bag. When they took out the body, it was that of a young girl. When I looked closer I noted that the body had a 90 per cent resemblance to my younger brother’s daughter, Margaret Waithira Mbaire,” Kigio said.
The family has called on police to expedite investigations into the case and serve justice to the deceased.
“As a family we want justice for Waithira. I want to ask the police to investigate this case full regardless of the stature of our family,” added Kigio.
Area MCA Mary Wamuyu stated that the incident is not the first to have occurred in the area in the last one month.
“This indicates that there is no enough security in Gikondi, I am asking now the national government to put in place security,” she said.
Area sub-county Police Commander Mwakiria Jesse said they have crucial leads and are confident that the perpetrators will be brought to account.
“The police visited the scene and took the necessary action, investigations have commenced,” he stated.
