Commercial sex workers are demanding for an increase in supply of condoms
Commercial sex workers in Mtwapa, Kilifi are crying foul over lack of condoms in the county warning that it could lead to a huge rise in the number of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and HIV .
The sex workers have called on the government to increase the supply of free condoms as there has been a surge in philandering partners paying visits to guest houses and lodges during the daytime in order to quench their thirst due to dusk to dawn curfew.
Some of the sex workers who spoke to Uhondo News said that the decrease in the supply of condoms posed a risk to their profession and the health of many people around.
“The lack of condoms has taken us by surprise. I am worried and I don’t know how I am going to continue my job as a sex worker. I must always have a condom in my bag since any time in order to protect myself from my clients,” said one of the sex worker.
Even after the government temporarily banned entertainment closures forcing the closure of guesthouses and lodgings, it is clear that the sex industry is still thriving. Let’s hope the government will hear their cry.
