As President Uhuru Kenyatta launches the BBI report at the Bomas of Kenya today, the recently released report continues to elicit divergent views on the various aspects that feature in it. Former IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe who has had a chance to go through the report took to social media to air her views on the report.
Akombe rubbished the proposition of the composition of the IEBC. According to the BBI report, it recommends that four commissioners be nominated by political parties and three independently selected. The political economist criticized such recommendations asserting that it is such half-measured political compromises that have gotten the country in the wrong direction.
” BBI suggests 4 Commissioners nominated by political parties, while 3 are “independently” selected. This is a farce and utter rubbish. It is these nusu mkate approaches that have gotten us to where we are today. Half-measured political compromises on fundamental issues.1/4,” she tweeted.

Akombe argued that an independent commission like the IEBC tasked with delivering a credible election needs to be run by professionals with no political ties. She went on to claim that nomination of commissioners by political parties will lead to them acting in the interest of those who nominated them.
The vocal commissioner warned that accepting the report will spell the doom for the country.
People who have made their names elsewhere and have an interest in protecting their integrity, not people who have never held any public office nor stood for anything in their lives, like my 2017 cohort. 3/4
