An officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was shot and wounded by a colleague on the night of Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the South B Band canteen.
The officer since identified as Police Constable Absolom Okinyi is said to have been shot by one Sergeant Thenge on his right thigh.
Thenge is attached at the DCI training, while Okinyi is a detective attached to the Railway Police Station.
According to a police report, the two are said to have disagreed on what is yet to be identified before Thenge took out his gun and pulled the trigger.
“It was reported by one Richard Kokoyo who is the Officer in Charge (OC) South B Police Band Canteen that there was a shooting at the canteen on October 19, 2021, at midnight,” the report read in part.
The scene of the incident was visited by a police officer on duty identified as Festus Maingi in the company of DCIO personnel.
Police say that the suspect went into hiding immediately after he committed the crime and the firearm is yet to be found.
A multi-agency team has been formed and tasked to pursue him.
This comes barely 24 hours after two police officers in Namanga were arrested following a shooting incident in Namanga.
One officer was wounded in the incident and was rushed to Nairobi South Hospital where he is currently admitted and undergoing treatment.
“At the scene, four cartilages and two bullet heads of 9MM were recovered from the scene. The motive of the shooting is not yet established,” the police report on the incident revealed.
