The police officer is part of a team that has been fraudulently registering sim cards
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives based at Kiambu on Monday busted a police officer namely Boniface Nthenge stationed at Kitengela and a lady by the name Lucy Syombua on suspicion on involvement in electronic fraud.
The two are believed to be part of of a syndicate that has been fraudulently registering sim cards using stolen identity cards and then using them to acquire loans and other benefits from a leading mobile Service provider. They were allegedly found with hundreds of fraudulently registered sim cards and electronic equipment believed to be used for hacking purposes have been recovered from the lady’s house in Umoja, Nairobi.

Investigations into other activities of this syndicate are ongoing as detectives pursue other syndicate members for arrest and arraignment.
On May 15,2020Â mobile service provider Safaricom has introduced a new extra security feature that alerts customers via SMS whenever someone tries to register a line using their national identification card.
Safaricom says it will send a consent message using the number 707, asking the customer to either accept or cancel the registration.
