A chicken thief from Ndubai Embu County caused a stir in court after pleading with the magistrate to set her free, claiming that the alleged stolen chicken had followed her to her house.
Murugi (the accused) was arrested after one of her neighbours Gakii reported her to the assistant chief for stealing her chicken which had gone missing for several days.
After thorough investigations by the assistant chief, Murugi was found in possession of carcass belonging to the chicken in question, a move that led her to be arrested and later arraigned in court.
Murugi appeared before Embu senior Tony Kwambai and was slapped with a fine of 2,500 and given a 2 months jail sentence for stealing the chicken worth 700 shillings.
The comical chicken thief pleaded with the magistrate to release her since she had young children who fully depended on her. She also cited that her neighbour had laid a trap on her by allowing the chicken to follow her to her house.
