Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said that Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli has caused the community shame and embarrassment.
In a tweet, reacting to his appointment as the Luhya community spokesperson, Khalwale accused Atwoli of causing confusion across the community.
Khalwale who is an ally of Deputy President William Ruto accused Atwoli of appointing himself to the position he had previous appointed ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to.
“Never in the fabric of the Baluhyia has one man stirred greater collective confusion, shame, embarrassment & anger than Francis Atwoli. In 2016 he installed @MusaliaMudavadi spokesman, only to remove him months later. He again reappointed him. Yesterday he personally took over!” said Khalwale.
The former senator is seeking to succeed Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
His reaction comes a day after political leaders from western Kenya met and announced the resolution to have Atwoli as their spokesperson.
The leaders met at the Golf Hotel in Kakamega town on Sunday, October 10, 2021.
The COTU Secretary General will negotiate on behalf of the community in the ongoing allignments with those seeking to form the next government in 2022.
Atwoli now replaces Mudavadi who was appointed spokesman prior to the 2017 general elections.
The meeting was attended by four governors from western region.
