Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has officially ditched President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party and Joined Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA).
This comes after Waiguru met Ruto at his Karen home on Tuesday morning and later come out to formally make the announcement flanked by 23 MCAs from Kirinyaga County.
Waiguru who has been at a political crossroads hinted at a gathering in Thiba Dam area in Kirinyaga County a while back that a stronger force was drawing her towards UDA.
In that gathering, Waiguru made the proposition at the Thiba area in the Mwea Constituency where she was addressing members of the public.
She inquired from the crowd if they would re-elect her as their governor for a second term and they responded in the affirmative.
Upon getting the positive response, Waiguru asked her constituents’ advice regarding the political outfit she should join to seek her re-election, and they responded UDA.
But she now faces a tough battle against Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici, who is also eyeing the gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket and enjoys massive ground support as well as Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, who also wants to be governor.
The move by the Kirinyaga Governor also comes as Ngirici has been enjoying close ties with top govenment officials led by President Uhuru Kenyatta resulting in her being co-opted into the Mashujaa Day celebrations conducted at Wang’uru Stadium on Wednesday last week.
