Garissa Town Member of Parliament Aden Duale has claimed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is a cult.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday night, Duale claimed that in ODM, nobody is allowed to speak.
He appeared to suggest that the leaders in the party worship their party leader, and anyone who does anything contrary is disciplined.
“I was among the people who were the founder members of ODM, and that is why I had to leave it in 2009. ODM is a cult. Why did I leave in 2009? Nobody can speak
“Jubilee is a very democratic party I do not condone those who use vulgar and unpalatable words towards the presidency. Whether you are in opposition or the ruling party, you are under obligation to respect the office and the person of the presidency, it is a symbol of unity,” Duale said.
Reacting to Duale’s remarks, ODM Chairman John Mbadi dismissed the claim, noting that maybe the Garissa Town MP holds that view due to the structures and discipline in the party.
“Actually he called ODM a cult, you cannot easily leave a cult and live, you would be dead by now… ODM is not a cult, it is only that we are disciplined as a party and we have structures and have a way of meeting and resolving our issues
“If you are in a political outfit and have a leader, there is no way you can attack, abuse or scandalize that leader without being reprimanded,” Mbadi said.
