Two pastors in Kirinyaga county have lost their lives in a road accident moments after finishing preaching to congregants in Baricho.
The New Apostolic Church clerics identified as Peter Mureithi, 45, and Josphat Gakono, 43, died on the spot after a saloon car hit a motorcycle they were riding on.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened near Kiangwachi market in Ndia Constituency and the speeding car that caused the accident was trying to overtake another vehicle before it hit the two. The pastors were dragged for several meters from the point of impact before the car stopped.
Ndia sub-county Police Commander Joseph Mwika who confirmed the incident urged motorists to exercise caution while driving and especially while making delicate manoeuvres such as overtaking.
Mwika stated the driver of the private vehicle was in lawful custody at Baricho Police Station awaiting arraignment after completion of the investigation.
“We are holding the driver of the car and he will definitely face the law,” said Mwika.
The vehicle and motorbike involved in the accident were towed to Sagana police station.
The bodies of the preachers were moved to the Karatina Hospital morgue.
